Trademark filing fees rise on 1 August 2026 — if you were already planning, move it up

The official fee for general companies rises from Rp1.8 million to Rp2.8 million per class. For micro and small businesses, nothing changes.

What changes

From 1 August 2026, the official state fee to register one trademark rises:

Renewal (general)	Rp2,250,000 per class	Rp3,500,000 per class

This is the state fee, not a professional fee. Whoever handles your trademark, this figure is the same.

What it means for you

If your company counts as general — not micro or small — and you already intended to register, filing before 1 August saves Rp1 million for every class.

Note "every class". Trademarks are registered per class of goods or services. If you are protecting one mark across three classes, the difference is not Rp1 million but Rp3 million.

If you are a micro or small business, there is nothing to rush. Your fee stays at Rp500,000 per class. Do not let a headline about a fee increase push you into a hasty decision.

What to have ready if you do move it up

A filing only counts as received if the minimum requirements are complete on the day of filing. What most often holds it up:

The mark itself in the correct file format
The right list of classes for your goods/services — the wrong class means your mark is not protected in the line you actually sell
A statement of ownership of the mark
Proof of micro/small business status, if you are claiming that fee tier
Payment — the filing date only takes effect once it is paid

The step most often skipped

Before paying anything, check whether a similar mark is already registered. If a similar mark exists for similar goods or services, your application can be refused — and the fee you paid is not refunded.

A search is cheap and fast compared with losing the filing fee. Always do it first.

If your mark is not registered at all

The fee increase is not really your biggest problem. Your biggest problem is this: in Indonesia, trademark rights arise from registration, not from use.

A name you have used for years, that customers know, that is printed on hundreds of packages — can still be registered by someone else first. If that happens your position reverses: you are the one who has to prove and litigate, while the other party holds the certificate.

A Rp1 million increase is small next to losing the name of your business.
